Welcome to Guitars & Memoirs

“We met in 2004 at the Americana Music Conference in Nashville and have been enjoying each other’s ideas, company and musical taste ever since. In our Golden Years, we thought it would be fun to archive and share our creative works: words, music, thoughts. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do and will check back with us as we continue to add music and words.”  - Evert & Deborah Wilbrink

Deborah, Vincent Furnier & Evert

Evert spent most of his life promoting trendsetters like Bob Dylan, Joan Jett, Bob Marley and hundreds of others for BMG, Island, Virgin, Chrysalis Elektra, King Biscuit, SilenZ and Corazong Records. Most recently he co-founded and managed the innovative Teye electric guitar brand. Deborah got the factual word out in TV news, music magazines, politics and education. She switched to editing and ghostwriting memoir and spread the stories of many lives well-loved and well-lived. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Evert has continued writing down his musical adventures, while Deborah concentrates on writing songs and shaping stories.

About DEBORAH WILBRINK

I'm from Georgia, and am proud to have worked at CNN its first year on air. Ted Turner walked through the studio one day and told us our work, bringing factual news worldwide, would bring world peace. We believed it. FM radio introduced me to music I could get with, then I got on and deejayed at a lot of stations, then edited and produced TV news and ads.

Learning to play guitar changed my life. My writing of commercials meant I was used to saying a lot in a short time, so song writing is a format I love! I took my songs to Nashville: no dice there but so much great music, and that's where I met Evert. The day job was teaching school and then I started writing memoir books for other people. Now I'm writing one for myself, and still performing at Open Mics - and here we are in Barcelona and Asheville.

The beach or the river, cooking with the fresh ingredients of the Mediterranean, learning a new language, hearing different musics from Old Time to Flamenco, are my fun times. And any time spent with Evert.

About EVERT WILBRINK

Against better judgement I chose writing about music over getting a degree in political science. Writing press releases, bios and marketing plans helped breaking local and international artists and advanced my career from contributor to Hitweek magazine in Amsterdam to President of King Biscuit Flower Hour in New York. Interestingly during my first decade in the record business promoting artists like the Dylan, the Doors, Zappa, Neil Young and Roxy Music I moonlighted for daily Het Parool and weekly Televizier, culminating in a two-year spell as chief editor of the biggest weekly in the Netherlands: Veronica magazine, selling a million copies a week.

Having moved to Nashville in 2005 and seeing the music industry changing so drastically I decided to spend my days promoting Teye guitars and acting as foreign correspondent for music monthly Het Platenblad. We left the guitars behind when moving to Barcelona in 2022, thus hopefully leaving energy to finally re-write my book Rock ‘n Roll Kamikaze for our English speaking friends.
